Is Point legit?

The checkable facts about Point: its track record, complaints filed with the CFPB, lawsuits and enforcement, and what it would cost you.

Short answer

Point is a real, established company: the CFPB counts it among the larger providers. Legit isn't the same as a good deal, though: an HEI usually costs more than a HELOC if you can get one.

  • Track record: the CFPB reported 10,000 contracts originated by Point in 2023 (CFPB, January 2025).
  • Where it operates: 32 states, from Point's own list.
  • Published terms: Point publishes enough of its pricing for us to model its cost: 14.3% a year in our standard example. Every term and its source.
  • CFPB complaints: 55 filed against "Point Digital Finance, Inc." (30 since 2025). The most common issue: applying for a mortgage or refinancing an existing mortgage. It answered 55 of 55 on time. Details.
  • Lawsuits and enforcement: none found in our review of primary sources.
